Footprints in the snow

He / She / They Said

I have to admit, I struggle with creating interesting dialogue. It doesn’t matter what genre, my dialogue feels forced.

Did you come here with or without dialogue? If you came here with some skip down just a bit. If you did not: have you tried using one of the chat bot programs? As I write this, my favorite is favorite is still in Beta testing, but I blog a bit about Khanmigo if you want to know more.

But if you are here, and already blessed with some dialogue that needs to find a home, then let’s try to narrow down what your dialogue is trying to do.

Try these questions and then pick a dialogue driven genre to explore:

  • How many characters do you have? Two? Is that a big screen or little stage situation?

  • Do you envision a lot of action or sparkling visuals? Is that, perhaps, more cinematic?

  • Does your dialogue have a fantastical element? Would it perhaps lend itself well to a lot of internal dialogue? A bit more of a graphically based exploration?

If it is doing one of these below, turn to that page . . .

19 - All the World's a Stage (play)

20 - The Hero/Heroine’s Journey (movie)

21 - Around the Gutter (graphic novels / comix)
